Day 02
After breakfast at the hotel, we leave to the Royal Colombo Golf Club for a fascinating game of golf. The Royal Colombo Golf Club is one of the oldest golf clubs in the world with a history of over 130 years. Golf was first played in Sri Lanka (then "Ceylon") at The Galle Face Green. This ground was also used for various other games too, such as Horse Racing, Cricket, Rugby, Football, and Hockey. Golf in Sri Lanka, like many other British sports gained wider popularity on the Galle Face Green. The Colombo Golf Club was formed here and in 1896, it moved to its present location which was initially a model farm, owned by Sir Charles Henry de Soysa, a Ceylonese philanthropist. In 1928 the privilege of using the prefix “Royal” was conferred upon the Club by the King George V. Currently the golf course is 5’770 m long 18-hole par 71 course. The course looks simple at first but its many water hazards and well guarded bunkers may well change your opinion.
In the afternoon, we go for a sightseeing tour to the city of Colombo. The city, being the commercial capital of Sri Lanka, has, for many centuries, been a flourishing seaport. The Moors, Portuguese, Dutch and the British have all left their influence in the city, resulting in a curious blend of eastern tradition with western sophistication.
